MENA Herald: His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, said the UAE Government is driving the 21st century leadership model launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to develop leaders who will have entrepreneurial spirit and utilize innovation to achieve UAE’s vision 2021. H.E. Al Gergawi stated this on the occasion of the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the UAE Government Leaders Programme (UAEGLP) and the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland (IMD), representing UAEGLP’s vision on developing strategic partnerships with leading global institutions to provide first class leadership education. The MoU serves the Strategic Leaders Programme (SLP), which offers executive education for senior leadership in the UAE Government including Undersecretary Generals and Director Generals. “The UAE Government is creating avenues for government leaders to learn from international best practices and experiences through capitalizing on future challenges, utilising all available opportunities, including the creation of global networks.” H.E. Al Gergawi said. The MoU was signed by Ohood Al Roumi, Director-General of the Prime Minister Office, and Dr. Hisham El-Agamy, IMD faculty representative for the Middle East, Africa, Turkey and Central South Asia. Professor Dominique said: “We are proud to have signed a memorandum of understanding and partnership with the UAE Government, which is led by a long-term vision for the future that has made the country a sophisticated destination known for its active role in the international scene. This MoU will contribute to the strengthening of our relations at the regional level, considering that the UAE is a prominent global centre for entrepreneurship, investment and commercial activities.” The IMD, based in the Swiss city of Lausanne, has recently released its Global Competitiveness Yearbook in which the UAE ranks among the top five countries in the world in the field of government efficiency. As part of the MoU with IMD, participants in the SLP will take part in IMD’s signature programme “High Performance Leadership” (HPL). The programme is spread across various dates at several international cities. The programme will equip its participants with leadership skills to enable them to achieve sustainable high performance. Participants will also be trained to develop their personal leadership attributes as well as increase their ability to bring positive changes and move to the next level of leadership. The UAE Government Leaders Programme was established in 2008 and it includes four levels: Strategic Leaders Programme, Executive Leaders Programme, Future Leaders Programme and Innovative Leaders Programme. It is designed to strengthen government national capacities through lectures, workshops and training programmes with leading colleges and universities such as University of Oxford and Duke University. The prorgamme also includes a series of internal and external visit programmes to exchange experiences and identify the best international practices.
